First Look: Fall 2013 Anime

Fall season's finally started! Here is my list of seasonal anime for the fall. Which anime is in your list this season? Have any recommendations? Comment on below!

Aquaman Design by Kris Anka
This is me shamelessly advertising my art. I didn't want to use other artist's work. Aquaman has orange in him so it counts for fall!

Galilei Donna (info)

This anime wasn't one of the ones I have picked earlier before the season started. So, a week before it started I put it on my list. Why? The art looked really nice and the normal we-don't-get long trope is played in these three sisters who are descendants of Galileo, which I've heard to be a legendary scientist in some way. That was interesting enough for me.

My first impression after watching it: fantastic. I found it to be a nice touch that there was quite a bit of family conflict, which made it quite realistic. The three sisters all have distinctive human personalities which I have been only paying attention to now. The art style feels reminiscent of Sword Art Online, an anime I haven't watched at all. Colours look wonderful and the animation is way better than other anime. In fact, I was really impressed by the whole thing. I'm hoping the story becomes a wonderful one.

What I like most is the setting, which is best fitting and also feels very christmas-y to me, which I really like.
Golden Time (info)

So I've looked up Golden Time and it is a light novel series. It started last September 2010, around that time I was picking around the bush of Toradora, two months before I started watching Toradora! Why I am mentioning Toradora? The author of Golden Time is also the author Toradora. I'm not going to let my impressions from Toradora stick to this one, as I feel it's unfair since they are both different stories. I'm a big fan of romantic comedies; anime (Chu2byo, Mayo Chiki, Inu x Boku SS) and movies (Silver Linings Playbook, Definitely Maybe) alike. I have soft spot for stuff like this, so I decide to watch it.

I thought the episode was good. Does a really nice job introducing us to the characters and doesn't go too in-depth. Wow, and it was funny! I got a lot laughs from it. It was really cool that Koko's voice actress is Yui Horie. She voiced Minori, my favourite character in Toradora. What I found lovely is the determination and hope of the protagonist, who is stepping in to the adult world.

The art style is not the most eye-catching and quite unremarkable so far. But I'm hyped for the next episode because major cliffhanger!

IS: Infinite Stratos 2 (info)

The sequel to Infinite Stratos, last aired in 2011. It's a harem-mecha-comedy anime. After I recovered from my tons-of-procrastination phase last year in April, this one of the anime I decided to pick to get back on my anime watching. I actually really enjoyed it because of the cute girls in the harem. I get bothered though by the usual harem protagonist, who is way denser and oblivious than other protagonists. I mean, Ichika, get a clue!

I have to admit my preference to anime is slowly changing. If I watched this second season 2 years ago, I would've considered it my norm preference. Now, I feel this is one of my guilty pleasures. The cute girls with not enough depth and an oblivious protagonist that make up a silly unrequited love with great mecha action.

Now back to my first look at IS's second season. I really liked it and I feel it's off to a pretty good start. They introduced the characters very well and you get to know them. The episode fast-forwards the typical festival and swimming pool scene which maybe I've soon too much in other anime. So that was a good thing although it felt a bit annoying with that scene and voices off sync. There's little fanservice in the episode and that's how I like it. I also thought that it was great that they're starting an arc involving the IS's. We also get a new character!

The OP and ED themes are pretty generic in my opinion but maybe it will catch on to me in the next episodes. I love the ED's animation with the girls chasing Ichika like the first season's ED.

Kyoukai no Kanata (info)

I remember seeing this anime's PV back last year. I was pretty amazed and I really wanted to put it on my watchlist. The sypnosis is quite interesting and I have pretty big expectations about it.

The first episode was pretty funny on its own. I love the mysterious but clumsy personality of Mirai, who can manipulate blood. There are some characters that you won't really know well in this episode but that's good so I can look forward to the next episode.

Visually, I can say this anime is well-done already. The animations are great! Also I might be getting a catchy buzz from the anime's ED theme.

Little Busters! ~Refrain~ (info)

I was relieved to see that J.C. Staff was going to animate a second season for Little Busters, since I wasn't really too mind-blown as I expected when it ended. I would still recommend watching Little Busters though. This anime is based on a visual novel developed by Key back in 2007. If you've been watching anime for a bit of time, you'd know the other visual novels that Key had made that had been adapted into anime (Clannad, Air and Kanon). I have to admit, although I haven't played any of these games at all, that an anime adaptation for Little Busters was a bit overdue compared to some light novel adaptations.

I found my first impression for the second season's start great. I loved the episode. The animation I found was pretty top-notch in my case and the story in the episode created some tension. The transition of the story's tones was great.

I'm really excited for this anime, and that its story would be a moving and a remarkable one. An anime that stays faithful to its original.

 Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai (info)

I have actually heard of the light novel last year, all because Nyaruko-san made a reference to it. The art to me was very moe-like, one of my criterias in some anime. I actually discovered the announcement while watching Little Busters! back in January and I thought it was cool. My expectations were some sappy romance with this machine doll. Also, I just realized that the character designer and original artist is Ruroo, the artist of OreShura. That's great actually, a change of pace in art styles for a fantasy anime.

I am not sure if I'm using the right word, but it felt campy to me. Not a bad thing though, as the episode was a very fun one to watch. I noticed that in some scenes that the studio used 3D models, really can't confirm that since it only happens a few seconds. The episode was interesting and it felt very unique to me. Yaya is a really funny girl and Raishin has a brooding personality, a good chemistry within the duo. It's really cool that this anime is not set in Japan, but in Europe! The action is pretty good and the art style's light but it's not that bad.

Yaya is a machine-doll, a puppet of Raishin. She stood from the other machine-dolls in the episode as she has a personality and I found that interesting. The music actually sounds like the music from Zero no Tsukaima!

Nagi no Asukara (info)

Announced last Summer 2012, this anime I really wanted to give a try just because of its staff. Why? P.A. Works = Pretty Animation. Buriki = Amazing style and character design. I have watched 4 anime series produced by P.A. Works and I loved them. I've also watched Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and both seasons of Haganai and they were fantastic, art-wise and story-wise.

I found Nagi no Asakura already amazing. It's not that anime with normal characters with no special ability. I was already interested when I found out the main characters were not exactly human; but they were Sea Dwellers. They lived under the sea! It was just like its land counterpart but there were fish floating about their surroundings (it looked a bit like Santorini), a different kind of fire they use and although it looks like there's no water, there is! They can also swim through it as if they are floating in air. I am really fascinated with this barrier between the humans who live in the land and the Sea Dwellers. The art I found quite brilliant especially the surroundings and background, the characters are a bit different than the norm. I actually got a little Shinsekai Yori vibes from this anime (I actually haven't watched Shinsekai Yori at all lol).

This anime is a two-cour anime, which means it'll last for 2 seasons and it will end next year. I'm seeing really great potential in the story and I'm quite glad I picked this
anime up.

I swear, that name is way too long! Let's just call it NouCome. Why are light novel's titles beginning to get long? Gosh! Like Galilei Donna, this anime is one of my last-minute picks and also had second thoughts about it especially the art, which I found too cutesy. The anime seems to break out a little out of the 'harem' category, and I was intrigued because the climax of the summary felt pretty lame.

Guess what? The first episode is hilarious! The author put 'choice' as the story's central term, a new thing for me since there had been really no anime to smack-dab slap in 'CHOICE' in it. I really hope they put this mental choice phenomenon of Kanade into depth, since it's really unclear right now. Why does he get headaches when he doesn't choose? Does the choice phenomenon exist in another dimension, where only the chosen ones experience it? I don't know, but this anime's got me asking a lot of questions.

The art style and colours feel very rich. The animation's well-done and the premise is fairly interesting. What only bothers me is that some of the girls' voices become pretty annoying and too moe-ish. Fun and hilarious episode.

Check the OP out! Handstands are epic and I enjoyed its implementation even if it didn't make sense. I found it cliche that the ones that are encountered are the distinctive and unique girls.

That's it! I found most of the anime I picked pretty out of the ordinary in story and plot. I like all of them so far.
