All us anime watchers have at least watched an anime that featured japanese curry at least once! I've always wanted to taste the curry these anime characters eat and I've finally made it just right! In this recipe I use cooked meat or gristle (?) from beef bones.
OISHII!
Japanese Curry (serves 3-4 people)
250-300 grams of either chicken, beef, pork or meat from beef bones, chopped to bite size pieces
1 medium carrot, chopped to bite-sized pieces
2 potatoes, chopped to bite-sized pieces
2/3 onion, sliced thinly
2-3 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
2 green onions, white part chopped in to 1 1/2 inch long pieces and green part chopped for garnishing
1 teaspoon or more grated ginger
1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)72 grams japanese curry roux block (I used Glico curry block so it is 2/3 of the package)
500-650 ml water/broth
1 tablespoon olive oil
Rice
EDIT: I've changed the meat instruction so it's tender!
1. Place meat in a pot of water. Turn on the heat to maximum. When it is rapidly boiling, turn the heat to medium-low and cook for about an hour. Remove the scum and fat. Take out the meat. You can use the water now as broth! You can discard though!
2. Steam potatoes for 20-25 minutes.
Take the potatoes out and add and steam carrots for 5-7 minutes.
Set aside on a plate.
3. In the same pot, heat the olive oil. Saute the onion then add the garlic.
4. When the onion and garlic are tender, add the broth,
white part of green onion,
soy sauce,
ginger
and steamed vegetables
Simmer for 20 minutes in medium-low covered.
5. Halfway through simmering add the meat and stir well.
6. After it is done simmering, turn off the heat and add the curry block. Stir well until thickened.
7. Turn on the heat to medium low and simmer the curry for 5 minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes
8. Serve the curry hot with rice on a plate. Enjoy!!
You could make it look like they serve it on anime! lol! Anyway, you could eat it with kimchi, pickled ginger or any japanese pickle! Sprinkle the green onion on top of the curry rice and enjoy!
With the droplid, use foil and shape it to the circumference of the pot your using. No need to cut out or anything! Or you can just cover with a lid!!
