Cann!

I just wanted to write briefly that if you fry pepperoni and onions and then add it to Campbell's Chunky Beef Soup, it tastes so much better.

2014 Fall Anime so far...

Yikes! It's been a month since I last wrote here, it makes me worry I might end up abandoning this blog since high school has come around.

I didn't write an entry for Zankyou no Terror, but it's really great in the beginning though it does get weaker by the final episode.

We're two-thirds into the season already! Wow! Doesn't really matter when I write about it but I'll do it now.

No pictures...I'm quite lazy to take like 5 minutes and screencap some pictures so no pictures.

This season I only took up 4 series under my wing, this totals to 5 including the leftover of Sailor Moon Crystal.

Donten ni Warau - It seemed really interesting and I thought the character designs were pretty neat. I put it in my list since the original manga seems to be quite popular. The first few episodes were pretty enjoyable and fun, but right now I feel the show has lost some kind of glimmer because of its melodrama.

Reviewing Summer 2014 : Ao Haru Ride

When I was watching the second-last episode of Ao Haru Ride, I had my sister watch a part with me. She cried.

This anime is cool. It doesn't take anything over-the-top, but it's one of those anime that hits you back home. See, there's nothing extraordinary in the surface, but if you dig through Ao Haru Ride, it warms your heart.

It's lovely, and the emotions are on-point, so it won't set you off. I think there's more to explore with the characters, so I'm crossing my fingers for a second season.

Reviewing Summer 2014 : Haikyu!!

Well, I kept insisting that I was typing the anime's name right. But now it makes sense why people call it Haikyu!! instead of Haikyuu!! There's no repeating character in the logo (except the exclamation marks, of course).

Now on to less boring talk, I'd like to say the praise and fame this anime has gained is well-deserved.

Sorry for the minor spoiler, but I couldn't help it. I tend to overlook sports anime when it's time for a new anime season, but this spring, I think I made an awesome decision! This is probably due to the fact that I had watched the first season of Free! previously, which is semi-sports anime, and also because the manga seemed really popular.

Haikyu!!is a fine adaptation of work. I love that you can distinguish the characters from each other, not just from their appearances but also their personality. The way the team interacts and converses with each other is believable and it adds to the exaggerated animation.

It is compelling and really fun to watch. I sometimes wish that I didn't need to wait a week for each episode. The Karasuno Volleyball Team fires me up, and I just get anxious rooting for this fictional yet plausible team! Haikyu!! also presents different kinds of perspectives and it doesn't just focus on the winners. There are teams that are much underdog than Karasuno is, and how their emotions and responses show is very moving, and it gives out thought-provoking ideas (not ones that are too deep, mind you).

The relationship between each of the opposing teams is portrayed without leaning on one side. What I mean is that, although Aoba Johsai is better than Karasuno, the coaches and players take each other seriously, and no signs of hostility was needed. Why? Doesn't it get old when the rival team is being always real cocky (exaggerated, too) to their opposing underdog theme? Uh-huh, me too.

This animated series is robust, and Production I.G.'s animation and direction is top-notch. The movement and fluidity of the characters rev up the in-series hype alone, and even though there are animation sequences that are re-used, it's not much of a problem. The great script and well-done story compensates, and it portrays ideas carefully.

A highly recommended series in my books, and it may change the way you see sports anime, too. I'm really hoping to see a second season come to works, and now I'm actually thinking of reading the manga.

Reviewing Summer 2014 : Free! Eternal Summer

I got a bit wary of a sequel for Free!. First, because I thought it may be a cash grab that will falter in quality from it predecessor. Second? Well even though I enjoyed the first season, it wasn't a remarkable series. So I was thinking, "I wonder what's in store for the boys?".

Let me start that Eternal Summer is whole lot better than Free!. Although, I still recommended watching both seasons to get the whole, awesome experience. I think it's extraordinary, what Free! became, the big hype of the sexy swimming boys PV last spring had purpose.

The character development from the first season was a quite minimal for the Iwatobi Swim Club, it was Rin really that had a lot of progress. That's what I dug about this second season, the writer took advantage of the characters' potentials and gave them conflicts and obstacles that show their flaws and ability to cope. Free! Eternal Summer has a more realistic touch, dealing with the third-year characters' decisions after they graduate high school, and how it will affect the people around them. For one, Haruka Nanase (who I am a BIG FAN of) gets pitted so much more and finally shows his vulnerabilities.

The series had some more diversity in settings and the stunning artwork and animation boosted it's cause. Animation quality didn't get better than the first season's but that's because the animation is already excellent. Eternal Summer broadened Free!'s horizons and gave its drama more depth. All in all and back to back, the whole Free! anime series is a fantastic piece of work and it provides its target audience (that is not often catered a lot of anime options) content that is worth thinking of.

You know, though it's a little detail, I loved that they changed their swimsuit designs! Highly recommended if you want to watch a fun and vibrant anime, and if you don't mind shirtless men.

Reviewing Summer 2014 : Glasslip

Wow, I remember writing last July that I was worried about the love hexagon whatever that thing is. It was just so unoriginal. Glasslip proved me wrong though, that the multiple love triangles are something to be worried about. I thought I was getting a girl having glass art-making adventures, but Glasslip also proved me wrong on that part. It was all about the future fragments, and I thought it would all make sense in the end, but AGAIN, this anime proved me wrong.

Guys, trust the hate on this anime, it is terrible! Visuals can be striking sometimes, but the character design and animation doesn't shine. Stunning backgrounds can't validate this as a good anime. Realistic small talk doesn't cut the incoherent story slack. Don't watch it, by episode 8, I finally realized it was a waste of time to hope for it's realization of potential. I finished it anyway because I found Glasslip stupidly funny when the anime is intentionally serious. It is a clustercrap of clustercraps.

Also, since we're on this topic, who the heck decided on Hina's school swimsuit design? My gosh.

Duck Fried Rice!

I made roasted duck omurice! The fried rice contained of

- small handfull of beansprouts
- teaspoon and a half chopped ginger
- one or two chopped green onions
- salt
- pepper
- soy sauce
- 35 grams chopped roasted duck, the stuff you can buy fresh in your asian store

I did not use a lot of oil for the stir-frying, since the duck was pretty greasy. Fried rice was seasoned with salt, pepper and soy sauce. The rice was heated in microwave for about 30 seconds so it was easier to mix in the pan with the other stuff. After the ingredients are cooked and the rice was combined in is when I add the green onions.

Afterwards, I put a scrambled egg top and drizzled on some sriracha sauce! Woohoooo.

Kimcheese Burger!

 I like kimchi...

This consisted of

- onions lightly fried in sesame oil
- kimchi sauteed in sesame oil to drain out excess moisture
- a slice of American cheese melted while cooking on a burger patty
- sweet chili sauce
- sriracha sauce
- a warmed burger bun

1. Drizzle sriracha sauce on the bottom bun and spread sweet chili sauce on the top bun.
2. Place onions and some kimchi on the bottom bun.
3. Place the burger with cheese next.
4. Pile on the rest of the kimchi on the cheese.
5. Slam the top bun on and enjoy!

Bokkeum!

SO this was a tasty dish and I put a bunch of stuff in it.

- Minced garlic and ginger (about a teaspoon each)
- Some green onions sliced in strips, I cut the thicker parts in half and separated their layers.
- Coarsely chopped kimchi. Almost a cup. I did not drain it much but I did use about more than a tablespoon of kimchi juice.
- A little flaked pepper barbequed salmon, the salmon was bought at the supermarket.
- A little pork, chopped to small pieces.
- Strips of sliced tofu; about half a square of tofu was used.
- About 2 cups of washed and drained beansprouts.
- Kimchi sauce: 1 tbs kimchi juice, 2 teaspoons oyster sauce, little sriracha, a tablespoon banana ketchup, bit of black bean garlic sauce.

First, the drained and sliced tofu was coated in cornstarch then pan-fried in oil until it forms a nice crust.

SUMMER 2014 ANIMUS!!!

This won't be too long and probably no pictures. I have 5 picks starting in summer and Haikyuu!!.

Ao Haru Ride - Not a bad first episode. It's like really awkward and teen-angsty in a way. Really neat artwork, and it's the same studio as Haikyuu!!.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Crystal - Wasn't bad as well but perhaps it was a bit cheesy? I'm not really digging the shading style alot, and the animation's okay. Some parts may have been unintentionally laughable. And I think I'm glad each episode comes out every two weeks.

Free!: Eternal Summer - It's baack!!! And it seems to be better than the first season. Really liking the direction its taking, although the first episode's a bit fast-paced. The boys are charming as ever!

Glasslip - So I see the multiple-sided love shapes of a group of friends are becoming a bit of a trend. But it's probably just me. Anyway, I'm slightly in a mixed feeling about this anime, mostly of the familiar concept of love hexagon of a group of friends. I've watched a couple of these already (Ano Natsu de Matteru, AnoHana and Nagi no Asukara) There's not much to say for how it is right now, but let's hope for the best.

Zankyou no Terror - Yo yo yo yo!!!!!! It's already so intense and it's probably of the strongest titles for the summer season. It's directed by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop, which I'd really like to watch as well. Jesus, man...The freaking cinematics/ scene composition (not sure if it's the right word), it just engages you in. It was so cool. And the story's pretty freaky as well. This is something I'd recommend to you right now. It was like watching a movie. Glad I picked this up.

Haikyuu!! - The interhigh-preliminaries are starting, and it's going to be AWESOME!!!

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy your summer anime season as well!

Last Words: Spring 2014 Anime

I didn't pick up a lot of shows this season so it was a pretty loose anime season.

Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to The Animation (info)

Really random and weird anime, I am actually glad it's 13 minutes per episode. Preferred the manga but this isn't so bad either.

Kamigami no Asobi (info)

Generic and kinda went nowhere in what I consider real character progress. But the art and character design were really nice and the overall 'derived feel' of the anime made it quite enjoyable and fun.

Haikyuu! so far is a pretty cool anime so far and I enjoy the great animation in it!

It was an okay-season overall in spring.

Nissin U.F.O. (Yakisoba) !!

This brand is probably the most popular of the instant yakisoba noodles, maybe because it is Nissin. I've seen U.F.O. a lot in anime too.

French Toast Sandwich!

Pretty basic recipe. Kind of like a cake. Double-decker sandwich.

French Toast Sandwich (serves 1-2)
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
more than 1 tablespoon brown sugar
pinch of cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
5 slices of bread (Wonderbread recommended)
3-5 strawberries, thinly sliced

1. Whisk egg, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together.
2. Heat pan on medium and butter it. Soak a slice of bread in egg mixture until fully coated.
3. Put soaked bread on pan and monitor to make sure both sides will be golden brown. About 2 minutes each side.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until bread and mixture runs out.
5. Layer strawberries on a french toast, then pile on another french toast, layer with strawberries and finish with another french toast.
6. Other sandwich will not be double-decker.

I think it's a fun breakfast and a variety of other fruits work great as well for the filling.

Oklahoma Onion Burger!

I did this about a month ago and what I did was I found this. Really wanted to try it because ONIONS!!

Hey you Beansprout

Long time no see blog! I was a bit busy with things but here I am.

So, I just finished Nisekoi a couple weeks ago...

And I'll go talk about it!

In the end really, in Nisekoi, it's not about it being definitive or original masterpiece, it's about how fun the show was. Sure, every damn harem and stereotype trope have been played in it, but it was executed decently.

Romance was coy. There were moments for each girl, but nothing really reached to a canon couple. Which is fine.

What made this show fun was the comedy. I'm gonna say right now, the jokes are not entirely original and you should not watch with too high expectations (which I did when I started). The reaction faces, jokes and absurdity was the most redeeming point. This part made the whole unoriginality and cliches more palatable (or tolerable).

If I sum it up: "Despite its familiar and uninspired story, Nisekoi redeems as an effective comedy."

Haha. I guess... but yeah, overall it was quite good.

Anyway guys, recommended if you are 1.) an anime beginner, 2.) recoiling from a heavy series and 3.) looking for a fun and light-minded show.

I really don't mind a second season!

Awesome Loco Moco!

Really liked it and it's quite conventional.

For the burger, I kinda followed the Oklahoma Onion Burger style by cooking the onions while cooking the burger. You can probably use any kind of burger. Be careful to not burn the onions.

For the gravy, I sweated out finely chopped mushrooms in olive oil and added Costco gravy (for their fries and the like) and thinned it out slightly with milk (about 1/3 cup).

Arrange with piling the burger with the onions on the plate of rice, then ladled gravy on the burger and finally, a fried egg on top. Preferably with a bit golden brown crust.

I think the onions made it all the more tasty!

Spring 2014 Anime

I may or may not add pictures but here are some first thoughts of my anime season.

Friday, April 4, 2014

Instant Noodle Combo!

I just stir-fried some green onions and chopped garlic in sesame oil, and then added some slice fresh mushrooms (preferably asian kind, shiitake or shimeji but any kind works) and coated them in sriracha sauce.

When I cooked the noodles (beef flavour), after it boils I put in some spinach and I turn the heat off.

I top the stir-fried mushrooms on the noodles and sprinkle on bacon, which I had chopped and fried.

Anyway, have any of you people grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? I tried it and wow, it was good!

Wrapping Up Winter 2014 Anime

I'll just do a quick sum-up of my season instead. No pictures, sorry. :(

Golden Time - Overall a pretty strong anime in story and character. Art production's not the best which can kind of affect the anime. Unfortunately ending did not leave a remarkable impression for the anime itself. Recommended if you just started watching anime or looking for a drama.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren - Much more laid-back and lighter than the first season. Very slice of life in most episodes. Enjoyable, but I would have preferred this series in a smaller package (OVA, ONA, etc).

Seitokai Yakuindomo* - Great start and quite entertaining. Not as exciting compared to the first season and sometimes can be boring.

Nagi no Asukara - My big favourite through the fall and winter anime season. A lovely story with an uplifting last episode, I found it a really sweet anime of growing up and feelings. The characters are so well-written which makes me even more impressed. Beautiful art too. An absolute recommendation! Watch it if you haven't!

And so far on the anime I'm watching that will last through the spring anime season:

Nisekoi - I think this is a mish-mash of tropes I've seen a lot in anime, which results I guess, in an okay series. It's not very original and feels derived. The main characters sometimes act so shy that this part of their personality overpowers them and annoys me honestly. Also, I am the other half of the watchers who would prefer this anime without the trademark peculiar shots its studio SHAFT is known for. It would work though, if Nisekoi is more unusual which it isn't really. Execution needs a bit of polishing!

Art is nice for the most part I guess. I also like clariS' opening theme. Hopefully, somehow the story will turn around or at least something happens.

A pretty calm season, I think. Nagi no Asukara really left me a mark, just like Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo last year (sorry, other anime XP).

Meal Combo #4!

Pretty sure it's the fourth one...but anyways!

It was pretty nice meal.

First I fried slices of luncheon meat without added oil until crisp, take it out, then I fried some broccoli in the rendered fat with a little fennel seed. Also took it out.

There was not much fat left on the pan so I added olive oil. Sauteed thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers, tried to crack an egg on it but sort of failed! Just made sure to pile the egg on the onions and peppers and cook it over-easy.

Served with some curry fried rice! Yeah!

Wonton-style Instant Ramen!

I thought, that a short cut and cheat version of wonton noodles soup would be nice and here it is

Wonton-style Instant Ramen (serves 3-4 people)

2 packs, Sapporo Ichiban Noodles Chicken Flavour
1 pack, Sapporo Ichiban Noodles Beef Flavour
6 cups, water (1500 ml)
2 green onions, chopped into 1 inch pieces
1/3 onion, sliced thinly
3 cabbage leaves, chopped
6 mushrooms (any kind), sliced
less than a teaspoon of grated ginger
1 tablespoon canola oil
desired amount of b!bigo Chicken and Cilantro mini wontons

1. Heat canola oil in pot and saute onions. When aromatic, add mushrooms. When the mushrooms are coated in oil put in chopped cabbage and green onions.

2. When the vegetables have wilted a bit, add in the water, grated ginger and noodle soup packets.Simmer the soup for a few minutes.

3. Add the noodle blocks and wontons. Wait for about three minutes or until noodles are cooked and wontons warmed. Enjoy!

You can use any wonton you want, too.

Bulgogi Combo!??....

I made this weird combo-ish thing.

First off, I marinated some mushrooms in store-bought bulgogi sauce for about 10 minutes. I stir fried some onions, ginger, garlic, green onions, thinly sliced ham and the mushrooms. Like some kind of teriyaki stir-fry.

Then, I stir-fried some spinach with garlic and fried an egg,

Not so bad, but really it was just..I don't know, it was okay but uh-huh, yep weird combo. Ham in bulgogi sauce hahaha.

This happened because there was no beef. I actually wanted to follow the beef bulgogi recipe on the sauce bottle. But I ended up with this. LOL

If I had beef and shimeji mushrooms, that would've been better. Also take out the ginger, I put too much ginger sometimes.

Canned Beans Upgrade!

I usually call this stuff pork and beans but they don't usually have pork in it. This is just a bit of a step up just heating up a can.

I caramelized a bit of chopped onions in butter and olive oil for more than 5 minutes with a pinch of baking soda, salt and sugar. After that, I add chopped deli meat and green bell peppers and saute. Then, the beans are poured in, wait for a few minutes and done!

It tasted good, I ate it with cheese bread. Although honestly, instead of deli meat you should add some chopped bacon instead.

Pretty simple step, cook the chopped uncooked bacon beforehand. You then use about a tablespoon or so of bacon fat instead of olive oil! Caramelize onions, fry in bell pepper then pour in the canned beans and the bacon.

Wonton Soup!

It was pretty simple! And the wontons were not homemade though, it was this brand.

Tasted like gyoza, a little sweet and I can taste the cilantro.

I just stir-fried onions, a lot of ginger (I have a cold today), garlic and mushrooms, all sliced thinly and chopped cabbage until they were tender. Then the chicken broth was poured in, the broth was made from simmered chicken bones with bay leaf.

After letting the broth boil, I added a lot of the wontons! They cook for about a minute or so in the soup, which was very convenient. A dash of soy sauce and some salt were added to taste. Also a garnish of chopped green onions.

I ate with this flatbread cracker with fennel seed. It was a nice meal. You can also add in some bihon (cornstarch vermicelli) !

Katsudon!

aka the Rice Bowl of AWESOME!

 awesomemess
The components could not get any better. Deep-fried pork? Egg? Sweet-salty seasoning sauce? Onions? Oh, guys, count me in!!

A few years ago, when I was younger I thought making this rice bowl was just wishful thinking. All I wanted was to follow this video to its exact ingredients. I was weird and I could not accept that some substitutes would work just as fine, which as of now, I learned.

I was desperate (well, not really) for dashi stock, I soaked in water a lot of dried shiitake mushrooms so afterwards when they are reconstituted, I can use the soaking water as dashi.

Unfortunately, that surprisingly backfired on me.

Everything is easy and the proportions of the seasonings are mostly similar to this recipe

About a tablespoon of soy sauce, a little sugar, a little shaoxing wine, some grated ginger and a bit of chicken stock powder mixed in less than a third cup of water.

Commonly the only vegetable are onions (which I sliced to thin wedges), but I simmered in some spinach (the brand Popeye was used. Isn't that awesome?) too! Then laid out the breaded pork chop (sliced)  and poured in one lightly beaten egg (not directly on pork) on high heat. Afterwards turned down to low heat after very few minutes and covered to let the egg cook.

It was very good and it tasted awesome! I really like spinach in katsudon, and the sauce poured in the white rice made it so much better. The egg was fluffy and silky! I might make it again and post a picture later.

I'm a happy child.

Chicken Instant Noodles!

Yuuh, the brand today is Nissin Hong Kong. I really like the thin noodles!

So, I arrange everything except the sesame oil included in the pack before turning heat on the stove.

Mapo Tofu!

Today, I made mapo tofu.

I followed Cooking With Dog's video recipe.

Mine is not authentic, because I substituted hoisin sauce with tao si for the sweet bean paste, sriracha sauce for the chili bean paste and green onions for the garlic chives. I also added in mushrooms!

I did an extra step with the tofu by boiling it for 2-3 minutes before hand. That came from papadesuyo777's video.

It tasted pretty good and I really like it! The spiciness is mild so it isn't that spicy.

Kimchi Hotpot!

Yesterday's dinner was so good!

And I made this

This was intended to be only eaten by me. hehe. If I had known I would've added tons more toppings!

Ingredients included a lot of noodles, kimchi, kale, enoki mushrooms, crimini mushrooms, carrots, shrimps, onions and hotdogs. Hurray!

Bread Pudding?!

I don't know, I just liked this one! It wasn't too sweet and it was quite bland, unlike good bread puddings.

But I guess its boring taste brought me comfort!

Bread Pudding (serves 1)

1 apple, cubed or sliced thinly
1 and 1/2 cups bread, cubed
2/3 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon (3 teaspoons) brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
 1/4 cup oatmeal

1. Combine milk, egg, vanilla extract, butter, 2 teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl. To distribute flavour evenly, strain if desired.

2. Mix the oatmeal, nutmeg, the rest of the cinnamon and the rest of the sugar in another bowl. Cut in some butter if you prefer.

3. Add the bread and apples to the milk mixture and soak for a few seconds.

4. Grease the baking pan and add the bread mixture in.

5. Sprinkle the oatmeal topping and bake for about 35-40 minutes in 350°C.

6. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes.

I used this Italian brand bread and I liked it! And absolutely, feel free to tweak in flavours and ingredients to your taste; it is a bland dish that I made.

Chicken Miso Soup!

Almost a week ago, I got a little cold and wanted to make some soup. It was either Campbell's mushroom soup or something else. But since I had some Campbell's the day before, and since it was canned, I decided to make a soup.

One of the recipes that came up in the Google Search for Chicken Miso soup was this. Pretty much the basis and probably better than mine, I was lacking some ingredients and so this recipe came up.

Simple but good, but not great.

Grilled Kimcheese Sandwich!

Yep! So a few days ago, I wanted to make a grilled cheese sandwich with kimchi after looking at this. One of the suggestions in the comments were to stir-fry the kimchi for a caramelized taste!

I did so, on said day and here was the result.

For the filling, I used one slice of White Cheddar American Cheese. I stir-fried some pepperoni and fried the kimchi and a little thinly sliced onion in its fat.

I toasted the inner sides of bread on butter in a pan (based from Serious Eats recipe) but I opted out to grill the whole sandwich on the pan. I used the toaster for it instead.

It was quite good but it was definitely lacking something! The sandwich needed more cheese, the pepperoni overpowered a little with its saltiness and the bread's toasted state was not glorious enough.

First Look: Winter 2014 Anime

I cannot believe I've been consistently writing ongoing anime lists for a year now! I'm actually in a very good mood today, I've finally caught up with my episodes after ignoring them for a few weeks. My anime season looks to be a bit zesty and very comfortable.

Nice Brush..

So, I saw this post in someone's tumblr for a really nice brush setting. I liked the look of it very much.

I used it for a project about Neolithic people. Haha, it turned out nice!

Mushrooms and Sausages!

Okay, so I just came up with this today. It's more of a time-saver and a space-saver than a flavour hack.

I'll be referring to this recipe I posted yesterday. It's very easy.

Quarter some mushrooms and lay them out on a foil-lined pan. Make slits or poke holes in the sausages and lay them on the mushrooms. You bake them as the same as the other recipe, 350 degrees Fahrenheit, turn sausages after 5 minutes and bake for 5 more minutes. Afterwards, flip the sausages again and broil for 5 minutes, turning it once again halfway through. Let them cool for a little while, because they are super hot when served immediately.

So basically, since sausages are full of fat, when they cook the fat comes out right? So when the mushrooms are underneath, they absorb it and cook!

It turned out really nice, the mushrooms didn't get any of sausage's flavour but it was cooked perfectly. It had a meaty and juicy texture.

Lunch Idea #1!

I made a lunch and  thought it was nice to share! Not exactly unique but whatever. Serves 1-2 people I'm thinking.

Lunch #1!

Carrot rolled omelet

1/2 carrot
2 green onions, chopped
3 eggs
1tablespoon milk
salt

1. To prepare the carrot, peel it and chop off the ends. Then 'slice' the carrot by using the peeler. You'll end up with thin strips. Chop the carrots to really small pieces.

2. Beat eggs, combine with green onions, carrots, salt and milk.

3. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan.

4. Add a third of the egg. When the egg is half-cooked,roll with a flipper or chopsticks. If you don't get it here's a video:

5.Slice omelette when cooled to bite-sized pieces.

Roasted Mushrooms

10-15 mushrooms, quartered
more than a tablespoon of olive oil
ample amount of salt and pepper

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. In a foil-lined pan, distribute mushrooms and drizzle to coat with olive oil.
3. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Bake the mushrooms for 10-15 minutes.

Juicy Sausage

1 package Johnsonville Sausage (use any sausage if you want)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Make slits on the sausages with a knife or poke holes in it.
3. Place on a foil-lined pan.
4. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, flipping sausages half way.
5. Flip sausages again. Broil them at low for 5 minutes.

So when I made lunch, I had some omelette leftover (about 6 small pieces) and I used 2 sausages for each of the 2 lunches so there were 2 left over...Oh, and it was eaten with rice!

Also, had some tomatoes with it, which I barely touched since I realized there was a lot of stuff already!

Ai-Kon Mascot!?

So I submitted an entry for Ai-Kon, an anime convention in Manitoba and the winners were just announced! Didn't win, unfortunately. My design actually I think is a bit unusual, hmm. I'm definitely trying again next year and perhaps spare lots of time so I could make 3 entries instead of 1.

Anyway, if you're around Winnipeg and you love anime, you must go! The dates are July 11-13 this year.

I went last year, for only one day and it was pretty fun!

Oh, and today I'm going to document what I did with my entry which I had tons of fun with.

Kimchi Pork!

I really want to start typing up the recipe for the Kimchi Fried Rice but I don't feel like doing right now...Though I did have something with kimchi and it was delicious.

The recipe's pretty much inspired by runnyrunny999's video:

Kimchi Pork (serves 2)

75 grams cooked pork, sliced to bite-size pieces
1/3 cup kimchi (if you like, cut to bite-size pieces as well)
3 green onions, 2 sliced to 2 inch pieces, 1 chopped for garnish
1/2 small onion, sliced in wedges
2 slices of 1 1/2 inch long ginger, minced (or 2 teaspoons grated ginger)
1 medium clove of garlic, coarsely chopped
(optional) 4 mushrooms, chopped to bite-size pieces
less than 2 tablespoons Chinese cooking wine
less than a tablespoon of miso paste
1 teaspoon sugar (preferably brown)
a dash of sesame oil

1. Combine the wine, miso, sugar and sesame oil to a smooth mixture.
2. Heat oil in a pan and saute the garlic and ginger first.
3. When aromatic, add the onion and stir-fry.
4. When the onion is slightly translucent, add the pork and mushrooms in.
5. Combine to coat them with oil.
6. Put the green onions in. Don't let them wilt too much.
7. Saute the kimchi in and toss to coat the ingredients with the kimchi.
8. Pour in the miso mixture into the pan and stir-fry and combine the food quickly so the miso mixture does not scorch.
9. Serve the Kimchi Pork on a bed of rice and sprinkle in the green onion for garnish. Enjoy!

I just ate some right now and it was so yummy. I like the sweet flavour from the sugar and onion mingle with the spiciness of the kimchi :)

Curry Donburi!

A really easy and tasty rice bowl!

Curry Donburi (serves 1-2)

225 grams ground meat
2 teaspoons grated ginger
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 tomato, chopped
more or less 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/3 onion, sliced thinly
1/3 cup water
24 grams curry block
shredded cheese
egg

1. Add meat in the frying pan. Turn heat to medium and while meat is not yet cooked, add the garlic, ginger and onion.
2. Stir-fry the meat well. If there's lots of fat that comes out you may drain some out.
3. Season the meat with the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
4. Pour in the water and stir. Then add the tomatoes.
5. Simmer for 5-10 minutes in medium low heat.
6. After simmering, turn off the heat. Break up and melt the curry block until consistency has slightly thickened.
7. Turn the heat back on medium or medium-low until the curry has reached desired consistency. Curry's done.
8. Fry an egg sunny side up (I like mine with edges crisp brown!)
9. To serve, put rice in a bowl and sprinkle some cheese on top. Scoop in some curry on the rice and sprinkle more cheese! Place the egg on top and enjoy!

It was a pretty flavourful meal that left me very satisfied! Hope you guys will like it.
